Food for Thought :)

Sometimes life can get tough. We go through times when we start feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, depressed, or discouraged. We might feel like we are losing hope or worse, we may have lost all hope.

If this is you today, imagine you are looking at a picture of a large circle. This circle is your entire life. Imagine there is a tiny dot somewhere in the circle. This dot is this moment. As you hold this visual in your mind, remember, what you are feeling or experiencing is only one moment in your life. Not your entire life.

Ground yourself in the present moment and let it guide your perspective. Look at the bigger picture. There is so much more to you, and your life, than this one moment.

I also want you to know that just because you are going through a difficult time in your life right now, does not mean this is how it’s always going to be. In fact, experiencing negative moments has no bearing on anyone’s future happiness. We all go through ups and downs in life. It’s part of the human experience.

What does have a bearing on our future happiness, success, mental well-being is: us and what we choose to do in this very moment. So, learn how to regulate your emotions in healthy ways, start living your life the way you’ve always wanted to, start doing things you’ve always wanted to, start small if it’s too difficult, but start somewhere, challenge your thoughts, challenge your core beliefs about yourself, the way you view the world, the way you view others and relationships. Do something different.

As human beings we are gifted with neuroplasticity. The more we change our patterns, ways of thinking, behaviours, the more we change our brains. We begin creating newer, healthier neural pathways, drifting away from unhealthy ones. So the next time we find ourselves in the same difficult situations, our brains will have adapted with newer options. We will now have different options – more healthier reactions, healthier thoughts, and behaviours.

Remember, if we want a different outcome, we have to change ourselves. We can’t expect to receive a different result, if we keep doing the same things over and over again. Our power is truly in our hands.

So, if you would like to see change in your life, be the change in your life.
